The mountains are a little cooler than the city, with a wide swing between morning and evening. Check the forecast before you pack.
The four seasons
Spring: warming up from March, loveliest in April and May, bamboo shoots everywhere and plenty of rain.
Summer: three or four degrees cooler than Hangzhou, a light quilt at night; July and August are peak rafting season.
Autumn: September to November brings clear skies, good walking and often a sea of clouds.
Winter: it does snow here; the rooms have air conditioning and electric blankets. Ask us about the road before setting out.
